What is the shelf life and proper storage conditions for Super Enamelled Aluminium Wire?
Our super enameled wires are rated for a shelf life of up to 3 years when stored in their original packaging, in clean, dry environments with temperatures between 10°C and 30°C, and relative humidity below 65%. Avoid direct exposure to UV light and chemical fumes, as these can degrade the outer polymer film over time.
Can enameled aluminum wire be soldered directly, or is mechanical crimping required?
Polyurethane-coated (UEW) aluminum wires can be soldered directly at temperatures between 380°C and 450°C, as the insulation acts as a flux when heated. For high-temperature classes like Polyesterimide or Polyamide-imide (which do not self-solder), mechanical crimping, sonic welding, or physical stripping before termination is recommended.
How does the conductivity of enameled aluminum compare to copper?
Electrical grade aluminum has a conductivity of about 61% of the IACS (International Annealed Copper Standard). To achieve the same electrical resistance, the cross-sectional area of the aluminum wire needs to be increased by about 1.6 times compared to copper. However, despite the larger size, the resulting winding remains significantly lighter.
