Polyurethane coated round wire (classified internationally as UEW) is coated with a high-durability polymer resin synthesized from polyurethane compounds. The defining feature of UEW is its direct solderability (self-soldering property). Unlike traditional polyester or polyester-imide coatings that require chemical stripping or mechanical scraping of the insulation layer prior to termination, polyurethane coatings decompose thermally at temperatures ranging from 360°C to 475°C. During the soldering process, the coating turns into a clean, flux-like protective layer, allowing the underlying copper or aluminum wire to fuse directly and cleanly with the solder alloy. This cuts assembly time by up to 40% and eliminates stress points on microscopic wire sizes.

01/ The 800V EV Powertrain Shift
